AIN’T

He was just a little boy,
On a week’s first day.
Wandering home from Bible school,
And dawdling on the way.

He scuffed his shoes into the grass;
He even found a caterpillar.
He found a fluffy milkweed pod,
And blew out all the ‘filler..’

A bird’s nest in a tree overhead,
So wisely placed up so high.
Was just another wonder,
That caught his eager eye.

A neighbor watched his zig zag course,
And hailed him from the lawn;
Asked him where he’d been that day
And what was going on.

‘I’ve been to Bible School ,’
He said and turned a piece of sod.
He picked up a wiggly worm replying,
‘I’ve learned a lot about God.’

‘M’m very fine way,’ the neighbor said,
‘for a boy to spend his time.’
‘If you’ll tell me where God is,
I’ll give you a brand new dime.’

Quick as a flash the answer came!
Nor were his accents faint.
‘I’ll give you a dollar, Mister,
If you can tell me where God ain’t.’

Funny Diet Tips

by Cortney on Apr.19, 2009, under General

Only in America… do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a DIET coke.

When you step on the scale… …Pretend it’s your IQ

Never go back for seconds… Get it all the first time.

Try to cut back. Leave the cherry off your ice cream sundae.

If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, they cancel each other out.

If you fatten up everyone else around you, it will make you look thinner

G-Day Game Notebook and Details

by chanc_s on Apr.10, 2009, under HSBC Youth

G-Day Notebook

Carlton Thomas just shrugged his shoulders.

His 20-yard scoring run in the waning moments of Saturday’s G-Day game provided the only touchdown by either the Red or the Black squad. But according to the redshirt freshman, he was just doing his job.

“It was basically a simple draw play,” Thomas said. “I was just doing what the coaches have been telling me all spring, to trust my eyes and follow my blocks. All I did was try to stick up in there. Fortunately, I was able to make the play.”

Thomas finished as the day’s leading rusher with eight carries for 59 yards, but after the game head coach Mark Richt said the performance won’t necessarily vault him to the top of the depth chart.

Running back Caleb King, who has been splitting the reps with Thomas, finished with seven carries for 22 yards while walk-on Kalvin Daniels used three carries to pick up 20. Redshirt freshman Dontavius Jackson saw his first action since having arthroscopic microfracture surgery on his knee and got in three carries. Sophomore Richard Samuel, who missed the entire spring while recovering from wrist surgery, will also be in the mix come preseason drills.

“We’ll play more than one guy,” Richt said. “We may not have feature guy by the end of camp. It could be two or three games into the season before we know that answer.”

Thomas said that’s fine with him.

“This (Saturday’s performance) isn’t about me having a leg up or anything like that,” Thomas said. “We’re going to need at least three backs to be competitive in the SEC because it’s a physical league. Right now, it’s just about us improving our work ethic and push ourselves to get better.”

Drops a problem for receivers

Quarterback Joe Cox knew the question was coming the moment he sat down in his chart inside the Georgia lockerroom: What about the drops?

The Bulldogs combined to let six passes slip (not counting three fumbles) through their fingers, including one each by Marquis Brown and Israel Troupe which likely cost each squad a touchdown.

“The thing is, that hasn’t been problem the entire spring,” Cox said. “The guys have caught everything that’s come there way. It just so happened the one time they do it’s at the G-Day game on ESPN and everybody thinks it’s a problem. I don’t think that it is.”

Walk-on wideout Vernon Spellman also dropped a pair while fellow walk-on Zach Renner and tight end Aron White also let balls fall to the turf.

Gamble, Washington see time at defensive end

Sam linebacker Darryl Gamble created some waves recently when coaches used him as a standup defensive end during a recent scrimmage.

He did so again during Saturday’s G-Day game, but this time he had some company.

Mike linebacker Marcus Washington also got in some plays from the standup spot and actually came through with three sacks, while Gamble and fellow position newcomer Kiante Tripp combining for one.

“Maybe one of the good things that happened, a silver lining from some of these injuries is we did have to take some of these linebackers and allow them to be pass rushes,” Richt said. “That’s probably something we missed out on, taking a Sam linebacker like Gamble. With a guy as athletic as he is, we should have him rushing the passer. If our base is in the game, he’s in there, if we’re in nickel, he can be in as a rusher.”

This and that

Richt said that redshirt freshman defensive end Jeremy Longo will likely have to undergo shoulder surgery in the upcoming weeks. If he does, Richt said the recovering time would be six months which would make it late October before the Fort Lauderdale native would be ready to begin drills. … Richt said that 12,500 pounds worth of food was brought to Sanford Stadium to benefit the Northeast Georgia Food Bank.
