Why we believe in the KJV 1611

Authorized Version, 1611
(King James Bible)

"In 1604, King James VI appointed six groups of men, scholars in the original languages and masters of literary style, to make a new translation of the Bible into English from the original Hebrew and Greek. "Fearing no reproach for slowness," they completed their work in 1611. The king James Version has been used by English-speaking missionaries to take the gospel around the globe and has never been excelled in language and style."

Problems with the New Bible Version Translations

Unfortunately, most of the English translations made in the 20th century are derived from a minority of inferior manuscripts which delete or change words and verses, and even omit a few passages of scripture, violating Revelations 22:18-19:

(Revelations 22:18-19) "18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." -KJV

It's unmistakably and undeniably clear in the above reference and related scripture that any changes or omissions from the Word of God is condemned by God. You might wonder why other books such as the NIV (New International Version) and the ASB (American Standard Bible) fall into this category and the KJV doesn't. Let's expound...

These problems can be traced to two liberal textual critics of the Bible, Westcott and Hort, who made a new Greek text of the New Testament in 1880's. Rejecting the accepted Majority family of Greek text manuscripts, which had been used for centuries, Westcott and Hort assembled various inferior, less credible manuscripts to produce a new Greek text that had not previously existed. (Meaning these manuscripts were developed by man where as the original Majority family was given to men through the breath of God)

Several new translations were made from the Westcott-Hort text over the years, but through the first half of the 20th century believers held fast to the trustworthy Authorized King James Version. By the 1860s, however, many people had begun to use new versions based on the Westcott-Hort text. Today, the majority of versions in use, including the NIV and the ASB, are based upon revisions of the Westcott-Hort text (Nestles/Aland). However, the Authorized Version (KJV) continues to be the most accurate version because it is translated from the Majority Text family of manuscripts.

In our hearts, if we truly want to be close to God and live in his will, and abide by his word, why wouldn't you want to cling to the most accurate version of his instructions, rather than a fabricated English revision developed millenniums after the original was cast? Furthermore, after reading Rev 22:18-19 how could you feel comfortable reading scripture, never knowing for certain, that what you're studying might deprive you of the gifts of God, which by scripture includes the gift of everlasting life? We know that God is full of love, but we also know by scripture that he is a God of wrath. If you assume that these alternate versions only exclude or change certain grammatical wordage, then please continue to read the next section. What you find, may very well show you that the NIV is a wannabe and the KJV is the supreme word of God.

After viewing the above omissions, additions and alterations it is easy to see that it isn't just grammatical changes such as "Thee" to "Me" and "Thou" to "You"... It is much more. Many people believe that the NIV and other 20th Century English Versions were created to help make the Word of God simpler to understand (Proverbs 1:22 "How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity?").  Don't be swayed by the lies and deceit of the Devil in believing that a new watered down version of God's word is still God's word.

The KJV was originally written on a 3rd grade level (and used to be required curriculum in our schools of the past). Today it has been elevated to a 5th grade level (or higher) and omitted completely from schools in our nation. This doesn't mean the KJV has changed, it means that we of the English language are getting dumber. That might be a harsh statement, but it is a true statement.

If you truly are searching for the wisdom of God's word Proverbs tell us in Proverbs 1:23:
"Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you." -KJV

If you trust in God, why wouldn't you trust in his promise that he will reveal to you the entire knowledge of his word? God's word was created by him for us. One would be foolish to believe that he would make it written and translated in a manner that we wouldn't understand. Remember this... Where there is clarity, there is God, where there is confusion, there is the Devil.

We at Harmony Street Baptist Church believe that the KJV has been the source of God's word and his work and his continuing grace, to lead sinners to Christ for over 350 years. Its the Old Time Religion, its the Old Time way in the Old Time Book. "Why fix what ain't broken!" Its helped save sinners for hundreds of years, why change it now? Because the new versions are easier to read?... Or is because the new version are just easier to accept? Hmmmm, Consider that, then consider this prophecy from Timothy...

II Timothy 4:3-4
3 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap themselves teachers, having itching ears;"
4 "And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables." -
KJV

A quick look up of the word 'fables' in Noah Webster's First Edition 1828 Dictionary says:

Fables:
1. A feigned story or tale, intended to instruct or amuse; a fictitious narration intended to enforce some useful truth or precept...
2. Fiction in general; as, the story is all a fable.
3. An idle story; vicious or vulgar fictions.
But refuse profane and old wives fables. 1 Timothy 4.
4. The plot, or connected series of events, in an epic or dramatic poem.
The moral is the first business of the poet; this being formed, he contrives such a design or fable as may be most suitable to the moral.
5. Falsehood; a softer term for a lie.

Interesting that anything other than sound doctrine is considered by the Bible a lie. Furthermore, considering the Devil is the Father of all lies, I would want to stay far away from anything of that nature.

We hope this has been beneficial to your walk with God and the study of his Word. Stay with the KJV, trust in God and he'll reveal to you the convictions you need in order to know what is real, and what is a fable.
